What Is pop tennis?

LET'S PLAY A NEW GAME

Pop Tennis is a combination sport of both Tennis and Pickleball. This new sport uses the traditional tennis court on a smaller scale, pop tennis paddles and low compression balls. People of all skills and ages are able to get into this new game!

To encourage new players to try this new sport, Phoenix Tennis Academy is offering an introductory free class for player's to learn the rules of the game, get a feel for playing, and can use our brand new line of equipment! All you need to do is show up and be ready to have some fun!

LEARN THE GAME

  • Court: Played on a standard tennis court; reduced to a 60' by 21' court size
  • Ball: Low compression green dot tennis ball
  • Racquet: PopTennis racquet; max size of 18.5" long. Does not contain strings, but instead has little holes on the surface; no need to pay for racquet stringing!
  • Net: Uses tennis net with same regulations
  • Rules: Same rules as in tennis, except serves are underhand
  • Scoring: Same as tennis

Teams can be comprised of one or two player's per side of the court. Determine who serves/receives the ball at the start of the game; typically decided by a paddle spin. The player on the right serves the ball to the player opposite, cross court. Only one serve is allowed. The Server underhand serves from behind the base line. Underhand serving can be done by bouncing the ball on the court and hitting it, or by tossing it in the air then hitting it. The Server's ball must land in the diagonal service box on the Receiver's side. If the ball does not land in the Receiver's box, or a fault is deemed when the server hit the ball, then the Server losses the point and the Receiver will serve. The Server will call the score.

  • 1st point - 15
  • 2nd point - 30
  • 3rd point - 40
  • 4th point - Game

Just like tennis there are 6 games in a set and you have to win by two games. If the score gets to 6-6 a set tiebreaker will be played!

Player's will switch sides every odd game, except during match tie-breakers.

For double's players, the player on the right will serve, and the Server must switch every odd game. For example, one player will serve the first game, then the doubles partner will serve the third game, and so on. Double's partners must also Receive the ball alternatively, and must Receive the ball entirely throughout a game.

And that's the Game! We are excited to expose you to the new game of PopTennis, and Get You on the Court!
